This year there was only one way to celebrate Chinese New Year – at The Samphire Club Winter Party, held at the St Ives Harbour Hotel last Friday (27th January).
2017’s first major gathering of the ever-growing Samphire tribe saw guests coming from far and wide; from Plymouth, London and across Cornwall, with many opting to stay at the hotel and take the fun into the weekend.
Guests were welcomed with Jade cocktails followed by a delicious selection of dim sum. There was a roulette table which proved very popular and live music came from the always excellent Kai.

A lively evening full of conversation, new connections and catching up with old friends was enjoyed by all. One member was fortuitously introduced to a head hunter, an interior designer was introduced to a furniture maker who’d been on her “must-meet” list for ages and there was even a Valentine’s night out arranged for one lucky guest.
The raffle raised £165 which John will be rounding up to £200 and presenting, along with the £600 raised at the Charity Dinner last November, to the National Lobster Hatchery.
A huge thank you to Hazel Parsons and Jenny Phipps for their stellar event planning, organisation and attention to detail, never more evident than in the beautifully styled, Chinese-themed décor, food and drink.
And thanks also to St Ives Harbour Hotel for superb hospitality and of course to Toby Weller whose photography documented an evening that certainly banished those January blues.
